Another great feature of SharePoint is Excel Services. Excel Services is a Microsoft
Office SharePoint technology that makes it simple to use, share, secure, and manage
Microsoft Office Excel 2007 workbooks (.xslx, xslb) as interactive reports in a
consistent way throughout the enterprise.
It helps in easily sharing and reusing Excel sheets on an interactive web based user
interface. A part of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007, Excel services
extends the capabilities of Microsoft Office Excel 2007 by allowing broad sharing
of spreadsheets, improved manageability and security and the ability to re-use spreadsheet
models using a scalable server-based calculation service.
Using Excel Services, here's what you can achieve:
- Generate and share your excel sheets through your web browser across your network
to maintain a single workbook. No more hassles of having multiple versions.
- Provides both a Web-based user interface (UI) for browser-based access and a web
services application programming interface (API) for programmatic access.
